A fifth Sumikkogurashi film has been green-lit for release across Japan in 2027, the year the characters turn 15. The official site calls it a culmination of the series; its working title is Sumikkogurashi Movie 5.
Creator Yuri Yokomizo drew a celebratory illustration. Each film since the first in 2019 has centred on a different Sumikko, and in the illustration Penguin?, Tokage, Shirokuma and Tonkatsu hold numbers decorated with motifs from their own stories. The fifth film finally turns to Neko, the last of the main characters, who stands at the front blushing, nudged forward by its friend Zassou, holding a "5" that is still blank.
