The official Chiikawa movie website has announced several special screenings to celebrate the success of Chiikawa: Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu. Starting September 5, 2026, audiences can experience the movie in a unique 4DX format across theaters nationwide. This immersive version includes sensations of wind and water, making viewers feel like they're on the island with Chiikawa and friends.
Another special screening titled Nantokanare, allowing audience members to vocally cheer and interact, is scheduled for September 11, 2026, at 19:00. This will occur simultaneously in seven theaters across five prefectures.
Moreover, an innovative interactive screening with automatically controlled penlights that match the characters' actions will take place on September 23, 2026, also at 19:00 in the same locations. The penlights can be purchased online beforehand or at participating theaters, though availability is limited.
Additionally, popular farewell screenings where Chiikawa characters greet audiences post-movie will continue in various theaters throughout September.
